Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter frontal view, with paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The imperial effigy displays the characteristic youthful features of Gordian III. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within the field, partially legible on this heavily worn specimen. The flan exhibits an irregular break at the upper right, typical of provincial bronze coinage of the Syrian conventus.
