Reverse description Two upright torches set side by side in the centre of the field, each entwined from base to tip by a serpent whose head rises above the flame, forming a symmetrical caduceus-like composition emblematic of the city's neocorate status and sacred rites. The torches, rendered in moderate relief, are flanked by the bodies of the coiling serpents, whose scales are lightly indicated by the die-engraver. The encircling Greek legend occupies the periphery of the reverse field, identifying the issuing community and its neocorate honour.
