Odessos, the Black Sea port that is now Varna in Bulgaria, was among the most prolific bronze-issuing cities of Moesia Inferior during the Severan and Gordian periods. The city maintained strong commercial ties with communities across the western Pontus, and its civic bronze served real transactional needs in a region where imperial silver was chronically undersupplied. The Ε in the denomination mark indicates this is the fifth and largest value in the city's contemporary bronze series.
