Obverse description Confronted jugate busts of Emperor Gordian III, laureate, draped and cuirassed, facing right as seen from the front, and the god Sarapis, draped and wearing a modius, facing left, with a cornucopia depicted behind his shoulder. The imperial and divine pairing reflects the syncretic religious iconography characteristic of Moesian provincial coinage of the mid-third century. The obverse legend encircles the busts in Greek script.
