| Beschrijving keerzijde | The syncretic deity Sarapis reclines left upon a ceremonial couch or kline, his left arm extended to support an eagle perched upon it, a motif closely associated with the god's oracular and chthonic attributes. A six-pointed or eight-pointed star appears to the left of the figure in the field, serving as a divine symbol. The composition is rendered in the provincial style typical of Pontic Sinope, with the Latin colonial legend disposed around the type. The date expressed in Roman numerals (AN CCCXXV) refers to the Sinopean colonial era, equivalent to 265-266 AD. |
