| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, depicted from the rear in three-quarter view. The imperial effigy displays the characteristic youthful features of the emperor, with a laurel wreath crowning the head. The encircling Greek legend runs along the periphery of the flan. The strike is somewhat irregular, consistent with provincial hammered coinage of the early third century AD. |

| Reverse description | Central composition featuring a lighted altar flanked on each side by a tall lighted torch around which a serpent is coiled in ascending spirals. The two torches rise symmetrically to either side of the altar, while the serpents entwined about them evoke chthonic and mystery-cult symbolism appropriate to the religious traditions of Cyzicus. The Greek neocorate legend encircles the reverse field, attesting to the city's honorific status as keeper of an imperial cult temple. |
