| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Maesa facing right, her hair elaborately waved and secured with a diadem, portrayed in the characteristic Severan imperial style. The effigy is rendered in moderate relief, with drapery visible at the shoulder. The Greek legend ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΑΙϹΑ ΑΥΓ runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the Augusta. The flan is notably worn and irregular, with surface corrosion partially obscuring the finer details of the portrait. |

| Reverse description | A large dolphin arching to the right occupies the central field, flanked above and below by two additional fish rendered in profile — one oriented to the left and the other to the right — forming a distinctive marine composition long associated with the civic coinage of Byzantion. The Greek ethnic legend ΒΥΖΑΝΤΙΩΝ curves along the upper periphery, identifying the issuing city. The design reflects the maritime heritage and commercial importance of Byzantion, situated at the entrance to the Bosphorus. Surface wear and encrustations are present throughout, consistent with the heavily circulated condition of the flan. |
