| Reverse description | Two deities are depicted in dynamic civic iconography characteristic of Smyrnaean bronze coinage under Commodus. To the left, winged Nemesis of Smyrna stands facing right, plucking her chiton at the breast with her right hand and holding a bridle in her left; a wheel appears at her feet to the right. To the right, Athena stands facing left, extending a patera in her right hand and resting her left arm upon a shield. The reverse legend ϹΤΡ ΗΡΑΚΛΕΙΔΟΥ ΟΜΟ ΑΘ(Η) ϹΜΥΡ(ΝΑΙΩΝ) identifies the strategos Herakleides and the homonoia relationship of the Smyrnaeans. |
