The title ΚΤΙϹΤΗΝ — "founder" or "ktistes" — granted to Antoninus Pius by Nicaea was an honorific rooted in the city's gratitude for imperial benefaction, likely tied to reconstruction aid following earthquake damage that struck the region during his reign.
