背面描述 A tetrastyle temple depicted in three-quarter perspective or frontal elevation, its four columns framing a cult statue of Asclepius standing facing within the cella. The god of medicine is shown in his canonical pose, draped, with his right hand resting upon a serpent-entwined staff (the kerykeion of Asclepius). The temple likely references the renowned Asclepion sanctuary at Pergamum, one of the most celebrated healing centers of the ancient world. The reverse legend naming the strategos Cl. Pardala encircles the design.

附加信息

Pergamum's civic coinage under Antoninus Pius was produced during a period when the city was aggressively lobbying Rome for the title of neokoros — warden of the imperial cult — for a third time, a distinction it would eventually secure. The strategos named in the magistrate legend, Claudius Pardala, is otherwise unattested in the epigraphic record, making this coin one of the few surviving documents of his tenure in that office.
