The two flanking columns of the shrine frame the deity, emphasising the sacred architectural setting typical of Sinopean civic coinage. The colonial legend C I F AN CXIIX appears in the field, denoting the Colonia Iulia Felix (Sinope) and the local regnal year CXIIX (118 of the Pontic era, corresponding to 72–73 CE). The reverse composition reflects the strong Hellenistic artistic heritage of the Pontic colony. |
