| Beschrijving keerzijde | The Tyche of Clazomenae is depicted seated to the left upon a high-backed throne, her figure rendered in the civic allegorical tradition common to Ionian provincial coinage of the mid-third century AD. She extends her right hand forward to present a small statuette of Cybele, the Anatolian mother goddess, underscoring the religious syncretism characteristic of the region. The throne's legs are visible beneath the figure, and drapery falls across the lap and lower body in layered folds. The Greek legend ΘΕΑ ΚΛΑΖΟΜΕΝΗ, meaning 'Goddess Clazomenae,' is disposed in the field around the central type, with partial letters visible at the periphery of this well-worn specimen. |
