Provincia Dacia was a manufactured administrative fiction for coinage purposes — a single provincial mint identity created by Philip I in 246 AD to serve the three subdivisions of Dacia rather than issuing separately in each. The bronzes ran continuously through successive emperors, with regnal years counted from Philip's foundation of the series, making the AN VIIII date here calculable regardless of which emperor's name appears on the obverse.
The joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus, begun in 253, produced coinage across the empire with both names appearing together — a deliberate projection of dynastic stability at a moment when the frontiers were collapsing under Gothic and Persian pressure simultaneously.
