Hypaepa, a small Lydian city in the Cayster valley, held enough civic pride to strike coins jointly in the names of both Valerian and his son Gallienus during their co-reign — a pairing that ended when Valerian was captured by Shapur I of Persia in 260 AD, the only Roman emperor ever taken prisoner by a foreign enemy.
