Neocaesarea, the principal city of Pontus on the Lycus River, maintained its own civic era dating from 64/65 AD — the year Pompey reorganized the region — making the date ΡϘΒ (192) correspond to 255/256 AD. The joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus was the last period during which Pontic civic bronzes were struck with any regularity; the catastrophic Gothic raids of the late 250s effectively ended the city's mint output within a few years of this issue.
