| Descrizione del dritto | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, portrayed in three-quarter view from the front, with paludamentum visible over the cuirass. The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of the Mysian mint at Cyzicus. The encircling Greek legend ΑΥΤ Κ ΛΙΚΙ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the emperor with his imperial titulature. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of provincially struck bronze issues of the mid-third century AD. |
