Bagis was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage under Trajan frequently named its chief magistrate — here Apollodoros — in the legend, a practice that tied municipal prestige directly to individual office-holders rather than to the city alone. The archon's name on the die effectively guaranteed his place in the permanent record of the city's history, which almost certainly influenced who sought the position.
