Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Julia Mamaea, Augusta and mother of Severus Alexander, facing right. The empress is depicted with an elaborate coiffure and diadem, her drapery rendered in typical provincial style. The circumferential Greek legend surrounds the portrait in the field. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show characteristic dark patination consistent with provincial bronze coinage of Mesopotamia.
