| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, with her characteristic elaborately waved and ridged coiffure, the hair dressed in multiple horizontal bands and drawn back into a large bun at the nape of the neck. The empress is depicted with drapery visible at the shoulder and chest, rendered in the provincial style typical of Carian civic coinage. The Greek legend ΙΟΥΛ ΔΟΜΝΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ runs around the periphery of the field, and the whole is enclosed within a beaded border. |

She holds a sceptre in one hand, and a small winged Eros hovers at her left shoulder, a motif characteristic of Aphrodite's iconography in Asia Minor provincial coinage. The composition reflects the local cult image venerated at Tabae, rendered in a competent provincial engraving style. The ethnic legend ΤΑΒΗΝΩΝ is inscribed in the field around the figure, identifying the issuing community. |
