| 裏面の説明 | Central device depicting a combined composite symbol consisting of a double-headed axe (labrys) and trident conjoined on a single shaft — the distinctive civic emblem of Mylasa — above which a crab is positioned, the whole composition enclosed within a laurel wreath border. The labrys and trident together form the emblematic insignia sacred to the city of Mylasa in Caria, while the crab may reference local maritime or mythological traditions. The Greek ethnic legend ΜΥΛΑϹΕΩΝ is distributed around the field within the wreath. |

Mylasa was one of the more politically nimble cities of Caria — it had a long habit of backing eventual winners, and the civic bronze issues under Septimius Severus reflect that alignment early in his reign. The city's coinage during this period was struck under the authority of the Conventus of Alabanda, one of the judicial districts Rome used to administer the province of Asia, and Mylasan bronzes of this type are not frequently encountered outside of Turkish auction material.
