Beschrijving voorzijde Draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, with her characteristic elaborate coiffure of wavy hair arranged in ridged waves and gathered at the nape of the neck. The empress is depicted with a bare neck and draped shoulders rendered in fine detail. The legend ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is executed in the provincial Greek style typical of Phrygian civic coinage of the Severan period.

Aanvullende informatie

Acmonea was a minor Phrygian city whose civic bronze issues depended almost entirely on the prestige of whoever held the local magistracy at the time of striking. The magistrate named here, Flavius Priscus, held the title of Asiarch — a prestigious honorific tied to the administration of the imperial cult across the province of Asia, not merely a local office. His name appears on a small cluster of Acmonean issues, which effectively dates the entire group to a narrow window within Severus's reign.

The Conventus of Apamea grouped Acmonea administratively with larger neighbors, keeping its civic coinage sporadic at best.
