| Beschrijving keerzijde | Tyche, the personification of the city's fortune, stands facing left in full figure upon a low base, draped in a long chiton and himation. In her right hand she holds a ship's rudder, symbolising guidance and destiny, while her left arm cradles a large cornucopia overflowing with fruits, denoting abundance and prosperity. The figure is rendered in the conventional Hellenistic style characteristic of Asia Minor civic bronzes, with the Greek ethnic legend of the Macedonian Blaundeans distributed in the field around her. |

Blaundus was a Macedonian settler colony in Lydia — its coins habitually advertise this with the ethnic ΜΑΚΕΔΟ, a civic boast maintained for centuries after the original settlement. Under Septimius Severus, provincial mints throughout the Sardis conventus intensified output, partly in response to the civil wars of 193 AD that brought Severus to power against rival claimants Pescennius Niger and Clodius Albinus. Niger held the eastern provinces briefly, and civic mints in Asia Minor navigated that allegiance carefully before Severus consolidated control by 194.
