Reverse description The reverse depicts the renowned sanctuary of Aphrodite at Paphos, rendered as a frontal architectural façade comprising three tall columns or pilasters rising from a stepped podium, each surmounted by conical or globular sacred baetyl stones — the aniconic cult objects central to the worship of Aphrodite at Paphos. The sanctuary is flanked by additional architectural elements, and a small figure, possibly an attendant or deity, is visible to the right. The composition faithfully reproduces the well-known Paphian temple type as disseminated on provincial coinage of the region. The Greek civic legend naming the Sardians and their twice-neocorate status encircles the design.
