背面描述 Heracles standing facing with head turned to the right, depicted in his characteristic heroic nudity. He rests his right arm upon his club, which stands on the ground beside him, while his left arm bears the Nemean lion skin draped over it; the infant Telephus, his son by Auge, is shown cradled or carried at his side, referencing the mythological foundation legend associated with the region of Mysia and Phrygia. The composition is rendered in a sturdy, provincial baroque style typical of Cotiaean civic coinage of the Severan era. The reverse legend, naming the first archon Publius Aelius Hermaphilos, encircles the figure along the periphery.

附加信息

Maximinus Thrax never visited the eastern provinces — his three-year reign was consumed entirely by campaigns on the Rhine and Danube frontiers. The civic bronze issues of Phrygia, Cotiaeum among them, were struck on local initiative, the magistrate's name prominent in the legend precisely because imperial acknowledgment was distant and the local archon's authority filled the administrative vacuum. The magistrate named here, Hermaphilos, held a second-term archonship, which the Β in the legend confirms.
