Megara by the mid-second century AD was a city living largely on its mythological reputation — birthplace of Alcathous, home of the Megarian philosophical school — while its political weight had long since collapsed under Corinthian and then Roman dominance. Local bronze issues under Marcus Aurelius are rare survivals from a mint that produced sporadically and in small volume, reflecting a civic economy that never fully recovered after Sulla's forces sacked the city in 87 BC. The reference corpus IV.1#10958 accounts for very few confirmed specimens.
