Æ26 - Marcus Aurelius ΑΡΓΕΙΩΝ

Argos was one of the older minting authorities in the Peloponnese, and its civic bronze issues under the Antonines reflect the broader Greek revival — the so-called Second Sophistic — during which cities competed to assert ancient prestige through coinage. Marcus Aurelius appears here in his co-reign years alongside Lucius Verus, before the latter's death in 169 effectively ended the experiment in dual imperial rule.

The BCD collection reference IV.1#4633 places this among a tightly catalogued run of Argive bronzes. Provincial issues of this weight class from Argos are infrequently encountered outside specialist auctions.
