Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Marcus Aurelius facing right, with a full beard rendered in short, tightly clustered curls characteristic of his early imperial portraiture. The emperor's hair is elaborately worked in dense volutes across the crown of the head. The draped and cuirassed bust is depicted in right profile, with the Greek imperial titulature legend distributed around the periphery within a dotted border. The portrait displays the naturalistic, philosophic character associated with Antonine provincial coinage.
