Reverse description Central field depicts a stepped altar surmounted by a jar or hydria, flanked on either side by a lighted torch entwined by a serpent, the two torches rising vertically from the base of the composition. The arrangement is a well-attested religious type associated with mystery cult practice at Pergamum, evoking chthonic and Dionysiac symbolism. A magistrate's legend in Greek runs around the periphery of the field, identifying the issuing strategos. The flan exhibits the same irregular edges and flat strike visible on the obverse, consistent with hand-hammered provincial bronze production.
