The ΚΥΖΙΚΗΝ ΝΕΟ(Ι) inscription marks this as a "neokorate" issue — struck after Cyzicus received the honor of maintaining an imperial cult temple, a status the city pursued aggressively and lost at least once before having it reinstated. The grant carried real economic and political weight, giving Cyzicus precedence over rival Mysian cities in festival organization and Roman administrative favor. This coin was almost certainly struck within the 177–179 window tied to the co-reign of Commodus, when such honorific bronzes proliferated across the Conventus.
