Synnada, a Phrygian city best known in antiquity for its quarries of pavonazzetto marble — the purple-veined stone that decorated the floors of Roman temples and imperial buildings — struck bronze coinage under Marcus Aurelius during the co-reign with Lucius Verus. Provincial bronzes from the Conventus of Synnada during this window are relatively scarce; the city's civic output was never prolific, and the surviving die corpus for Synnada across the whole imperial period remains thin compared to its Phrygian neighbors like Laodicea or Hierapolis.
