Macrinus held power for just fourteen months — the first emperor never to have served in the Senate, elevated from the praetorian prefecture after orchestrating, or at least benefiting from, the murder of Caracalla in 218. Provincial mints across Asia Minor issued bronze coinage in his name during this narrow window, and Cyzicus was among the most active. The city held neokorate status — the right to maintain an imperial cult temple — a civic honor aggressively pursued and proudly advertised on local bronze.
Macrinus was defeated by the forces of Elagabalus at the Battle of Antioch in June 218. His issues from Cyzicus are consequently short-dated by definition.
