| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, the laurel wreath rendered with fine individual leaves, drapery visible on the left shoulder. The imperial effigy is portrayed in the provincial Greek manner, with a youthful physiognomy characteristic of Gordian III's numismatic representations. A Greek legend surrounds the bust along the periphery of the flan, partially visible due to the irregular striking. The overall style is consistent with the provincial bronze coinage produced at Nisibis during the mid-third century AD. |
