At her feet, a lion reclines to the left, the sacred animal of Cybele and an emblem closely associated with her Anatolian cult. The composition reflects the deep religious significance of Cybele at Smyrna, where her worship was central to civic identity. The reverse legend, arranged in the field around the central type, records the city's prestigious triple neocorate status and the name of the presiding strategos. |
