Reverse description Heracles, the patron deity of Heraclea Pontica, depicted standing left with head turned to the right in a three-quarter pose. In his extended left arm he holds a bow and the Nemean lion's skin, while his right hand rests upon his characteristic club. The figure is rendered in the Hellenistic tradition befitting the city's mythological foundation. The encircling Greek legend asserts the city's neocorate status, with the numeral Η (8) denoting the eighth year or neocorate honour.
