Reverse description Zeus stands to the left, nude, with his head turned to the right in a dignified contrapposto pose; his left hand rests on his hip while his right hand holds a long sceptre upright. The reverse legend ΑΡΓΕΙωΝ, divided by the figure of Zeus with the numeral Ι-Α (11) on either side, identifies this as a civic issue of the Argives and bears a sequential or magistrate number. The rendering of Zeus recalls classical Peloponnesian iconographic traditions, appropriate for a mint at Argos, a city with strong Zeus cult associations.
