Thyatira, a Lydian city better known to historians as one of the Seven Churches addressed in Revelation, functioned primarily as a garrison town and commercial hub during the Severan period — its coinage under Elagabalus reflects the city's robust bronze-striking tradition rather than any particular imperial favor. The reign itself was brief and chaotic, ending with the emperor's murder in a latrine by the Praetorian Guard in 222 AD, his body dragged through Rome's streets before being thrown into the Tiber.
