| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Maesa facing right, wearing a diadem, her hair elaborately arranged. The legend ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΕϹΑ ΑΥΓ appears in the field surrounding the effigy, identifying the empress by name and title. The portrait is rendered in the provincial style typical of Syrian civic bronze coinage of the Severan period. The flan is irregular, and surface wear and patination largely obscure fine detail. |
