Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, the cuirass decorated with relief ornament visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the frontal three-quarter perspective typical of eastern provincial issues of the Severan period. The circular Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, enclosed by a dotted border. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features associated with Elagabalus on provincial coinage of Asia Minor.

Aanvullende informatie

Diocleia was a minor Macedonian community whose civic coinage under Elagabalus falls within the Conventus of Apamea, an administrative grouping that bundled smaller poleis under Roman provincial oversight for judicial and fiscal purposes. The dual ethnic legend — ΔΙΟΚΛΕΑΝΩΝ ΜΟΞΕΑΝΩΝ — suggests a synoikism or at minimum a formal association between Diocleia and the otherwise obscure settlement of Moxea, a pairing unattested before this reign and likely formalized under the administrative reshuffling that accompanied the chaotic transition from Macrinus to Elagabalus in 218.
