Additional information

The homonoia ("concord") coinage between Philadelphia and Ephesus belongs to a competitive civic tradition in which Asian cities negotiated shared issues as public demonstrations of alliance — often brokered through the Roman provincial administration rather than arising from genuine municipal goodwill. The magistrate name partially preserved in the legend, Lagetas, remains imperfectly read, which has complicated die-linking studies for this type. Philadelphia, the smallest of the seven cities of Revelation, punched well above its weight in provincial bronze production under the Flavians.
