背面描述 Two Nemeses standing facing each other in a symmetrical composition, each goddess plucking her chiton at the chest in the characteristic gesture of the double Nemesis type favoured at Smyrna. One figure holds a cubit rule, the other a bridle, while a wheel is depicted at the feet of the latter, serving as her attribute. The figures are rendered in the local provincial style with flowing drapery, and the surrounding Greek legend names the issuing magistrate and city.

附加信息

Smyrna was among the most competitive cities in the province of Asia when it came to imperial honorifics, repeatedly clashing with Ephesus and Pergamon over the title of "first city" — a rivalry that played out partly through the prestige of local coinage. The strategos Aurelius Geminus, whose name appears in the magistrate formula, was one of many local officials who used coin issues to publicly advertise their loyalty to the Severan house during Caracalla's reign.

The Smyrnaean mint was prolific under Caracalla, producing an unusually wide range of denominations and types across his co-reign with Septimius Severus and his sole rule after 211.
