Acmoneia, a Phrygian city of modest political standing, nonetheless maintained an active civic mint through the Severan period — issuing bronze largely to facilitate local exchange and, crucially, to display loyalty to the imperial house. Caracalla appears on civic bronzes from dozens of Anatolian cities during his co-reign with Septimius Severus and later sole rule, a period when provincial mints essentially competed in demonstrating devotion.
The Conventus of Apamea grouped Acmoneia administratively under the assize center at Apamea, where a Roman magistrate periodically held court. V.2#238 places this type within von Aulock's systematic cataloguing of Phrygian civic coinage — a reference corpus that remains the primary authority for this region's issues.
