The arrangement alludes to the ΙΕΡΟΙ ΑΓΩΝΕϹ, the sacred athletic contests celebrated in the city. A Greek legend is disposed around the field, with partial inscription visible in the lower portion of the coin. The composition is typical of civic agonistic reverses from Bithynian cities under the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus. |
