Metropolis in Ionia was a minor city whose civic coinage under the joint reign of Valerian I and Gallienus survives in very small numbers — the city's output was never large, and the conventus of Ephesus administered several competing mints drawing on the same regional bronze supply. The abbreviated magistrate name preserved in the legend has not been fully resolved in the prosopographical record, leaving the issuing official's identity uncertain.
