背面描述 Two standing figures face one another in a dexiosis scene: the emperor stands at right, draped and cuirassed, resting his left hand upon a long sceptre, while the turreted city goddess (Tyche) of Metropolis stands at left, holding an inverted sceptre in her left hand; both figures clasp right hands in a gesture symbolising the bond between imperial authority and the city. The reverse legend, distributed around the field and divided by the figures, records the name of the local magistrate and civic honorific.

附加信息

Metropolis in Ionia was a minor city that punched above its weight administratively during the joint reign of Valerian and Gallienus — the magistrate name preserved in the obverse legend, Oua. Neikias, allows this piece to be placed within a specific civic coinage sequence tied to the Ephesian conventus, the Roman judicial district under which Metropolis fell. Provincial bronzes of this co-regency are often difficult to attribute precisely because so many small Ionian mints produced similar issues simultaneously under the same administrative umbrella.
