Cyzicus, one of the most commercially active cities on the Propontis, struck jointly in the names of Valerian and Gallienus during the years of their co-rule — a period bookended by military catastrophe. The magistrate name ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΔΗΣ appears on a small cluster of issues, helping scholars sequence the civic coinage chronologically within what was an administratively chaotic decade. Valerian's capture by Shapur I at the Battle of Edessa in 260 AD effectively ended joint issues of this type; no Roman emperor had been taken prisoner by a foreign enemy before or since.
