Hypaepa was a small Lydian city in the Cayster River valley whose coins are notable primarily for their magistrate series — the strategos named in this legend, Lucius, is one of several local officials whose tenures can be roughly sequenced through surviving bronze issues but rarely pinned to a specific year within Trajan's two-decade reign. The Conventus of Ephesus grouped dozens of such Lydian communities under a single Roman judicial circuit, and Hypaepa's output was modest enough that even common types from this city are underrepresented in major collections.
