Tripolis in Lydia — not to be confused with the more prominent Tripolis in Phoenicia — was a minor civic mint operating under the Roman provincial system during Trajan's reign. The epithet ΔΑΚΙΚΟϹ in the obverse legend dates this issue to after 102 AD, when the title was formally awarded following the First Dacian War. That detail narrows the window considerably within an otherwise broad reign attribution.
Provincial bronzes from the Sardis conventus rarely achieved wide circulation beyond their immediate region, functioning largely as small-change substitutes where Roman imperial coinage was thin on the ground.
