Additional information

Struck to commemorate the dedication of the Temple of Trajan at Pergamum — the Trajaneum — which Trajan himself authorized but did not live to see completed. The temple was finished under Hadrian, who used its completion as a political instrument, positioning himself as the dutiful successor who honored his adoptive father's divine status. Pergamum held the rare distinction of neokoros for the imperial cult twice over by this period, making it one of the empire's most privileged centers for emperor worship in the Greek east.
