A lighted altar appears at her feet, while below the exergual line a river god swims leftward, representing the Balikh or Euphrates river associated with the Carrhae region. The Greek colonial legend encircles the type, identifying the issuing city with its colonial and metropolitan status. The composition follows standard Mesopotamian provincial iconographic conventions of the Severan era. |
