The sacred baetyl or conical stone sacred to Aphrodite is prominently displayed within the temple interior, flanked by a crescent and star. The temple columns are surmounted by doves and torches, emblematic of the Paphian cult. The reverse legend references the local magistrate Nikomachos and records Sardis's status as a twice-neocorate city, with the epithet ΠΑΦΙΗ alluding to the Paphian Aphrodite venerated there. |
